The Bert Show: What Do You Do When You’re Almost Done With College But Are Having Second Thoughts?

It’s the age old question we get almost every year from college students thinking about doing this: is taking a “break” a bad thing?

We’re not talking about dropping out and doing nothing; we’re talking about not knowing what to do with your life and taking a hot minute to figure it out.

Do they go back and waste $12K and maybe take a hit to their GPA in order to finish, or do they take some time off?

Here’s the email we got – and if you have drama but don’t want to come on the radio, we can still help! Email us.

Need some pretty last minute advice. Classes are starting for fall semester and for the most part, I’m into only my major classes. I took a few classes over the summer and realized, I don’t think it’s for me. I’m having A LOT of second thoughts.

However, I also have zero idea of what I want to do. I’m already on “the 5 year plan” so most of my friends are starting to graduate or will graduate at the end of this year. I feel so lost. There is a very short window of time to drop my classes and still get my money back.

But I’m worried that A – my parents will be pissed but also B – am I just further dragging out graduation. Will taking one semester lead to another off and another. Would I end up not going back? Should I just go through with the semester and waste 12K and a potential hit on my GPA or do I take the semester off? Does everyone feel this way when it comes time to stick with a major? Maybe I’d feel this way not matter what major I pick and I
just need to suck it up?

Help! I have like no time to decide!
