The Hallmark Channel has reversed its decision to stop running ads featuring married lesbians kissing.
The ads are for the wedding planning website Zola, and after they started running, the conservative group One Million Moms started a petition to get Hallmark to ditch them. And it worked . . . for a hot minute.
On Friday, Hallmark announced it would pull the ads because they were, quote, “distracting from the purpose of our network, which is to provide entertainment value.”
But on Sunday night Hallmark APOLOGIZED and said they were going to reinstate them. They added that they would work with GLAAD to, quote, “better represent the LGBTQ community across our portfolio of brands.”
ELLEN DEGENERES was among those who questioned Hallmark’s initial decision, saying, quote, “Isn’t it almost 2020? What are you thinking? Please explain. We’re all ears.” (People)
“Saturday Night Live” also worked a quick jab at the controversy into “Weekend Update” and at the end of a skit called the “Hallmark Dating Show”.
