The next time you’re arguing with your partner, you might be gaslighting without even knowing it. To gaslight someone means to manipulate someone by psychological means into questioning their own sanity or feelings. Yep, I’m totally guilty of gaslighting (not knowing) until now.
So, what are three common phrases you should avoid when in an argument?
“I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT I DID WRONG!”: It shifts the blame and makes your partner question their reaction.
“YOU’RE TOO SENSITIVE”: This one bothers me the MOST. You are telling them their feelings don’t matter.
“YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN”: It makes your partner feel like they’re being irrational and discredits their feelings.
Welp, I’m going to put myself in time-out LOL and work on being a better communicator 🙂
