Wait…TODAY Is The First Day Of Summer?!?

Ah, June. For kids, that means summer vacation is in full force. For adults, it’s grilling season, with the promise of July 4th and fireworks just around the corner! But wait, have we collectively jumped the gun?

According to almanac.com…pretty much. Depending on where you live, this may not seem so weird. Every school handles vacation times differently, so mayyyyyyyybe some of us have always assumed summer begins in mid-May! Even meteorologically, summer starts promptly on June 1st.

Not so, astrologically, which is almost a full month later.

“the first day of summer is said to be when the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky, which occurs on the summer solstice (June 20–22).”

So how about it? Is your mind equally blown? Next time someone complains about the heat in May, you can now respond with “Just wait until the ACTUAL summer!”
