The Bert Show: The Dad She Nannies For Is Letting People Believe She’s His Girlfriend!

What do you do when the dad of the kids you nanny is letting people believe (through omission) that you’re his girlfriend? If you love your job, is it even worth bringing up?

Here’s the email we got from one Bert Show listener:

I have been nannying for a family for 2 years now. The parents are divorced and I really only watch the kids when they are with their dad… I don’t want to use his real name but let’s call him “Carl.” Recently, I ran into an acquaintance.

In our conversation she mentioned that she knew “Carl” and asked how long we had been together. I was obviously confused and I tried to clarify that we were not a couple and that I was just his children’s nanny. She seemed really surprised. I asked why she thought we were dating. She then pulled out her phone and showed me multiple pictures on his Facebook page that included me.

These were pictures from places and events I had been with the entire family. He didn’t flat out say I was his girlfriend but he also never said I was the nanny either. He also never corrected or denied any comments that referenced me as his girlfriend.

I’m really weirded out by it and want to say something to him…however, I also don’t want to lose this job either. He pays me really well and the schedule is perfect for my classes. Do I say anything? If so, what do I say?
